Community Grants

United Way of Forsyth County invests in strong nonprofits because strong nonprofits build strong communities. Each year, we distribute funds raised through our annual campaign to local organizations whose programs align with our focus areas: Youth Opportunity, Healthy Community, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency.

Our grants process is guided by community volunteers who serve on the Community Investment Committee. These volunteers carefully review applications, assess community needs, and make funding recommendations to ensure donor dollars are invested where they will have the greatest impact.

Through this transparent and community-driven approach, United Way supports programs that:

  • Address the most pressing needs in Forsyth and Dawson Counties

  • Provide measurable outcomes and lasting impact

  • Strengthen the overall nonprofit sector through collaboration and innovation

Our Grantmaking Process

1. Application Opens
Nonprofits will be invited to submit proposals for programs that align with our focus areas: Youth Opportunity, Healthy Community, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency. Applications will open each spring.

2. Review by Community Volunteers
Applications are carefully reviewed by our Community Investment Committee—a group of local volunteers who represent the voices of our community.

3. Evaluation & Recommendations
Committee members evaluate each proposal based on community needs, program outcomes, and alignment with United Way’s priorities. They then put a score into THIS RUBRIC and make funding recommendations to our Board of Directors.

4. Funding & Accountability
Once awarded, funds are distributed to nonprofits with clear expectations for reporting outcomes. Grantees provide mid-year and final reports to ensure transparency, accountability, and measurable impact.
