BE AN EVERYDAY PHILANTHROPIST!
One question asked quite often is "how can I give back to my community"? The answer is "Be an Everyday Philanthropist"!
United Way of Forsyth County has made it easy and fun with our new philantropic calendar. Each month we have focused on one area where you can make a difference and improve the lives of individuals and families right here in our community. See below for monthly details:
January - Resolve to Live United. A one-time $5 donation could provide weekend meals for one food insecure student. That same $5 given each week, could provide specialized nursing care for a medically fragile student to attend school. To donate today, visit our secure site at www.unitedwayforsyth.com/donate
February - Free Tax Prep. United Way of Forsyth County partners with AARP Foundation Tax-Aide to provide free tax preparation for low to moderate income families and seniors, allowing them to keep more money in their pocket. Appointments with AARP tax professionals will be available Feb - April in our office. Last year, 353 residents (ages 18-95) filed their taxes through the program. Click here to see the Free Tax Flyer including qualifications.
March - Non Profit Seminars. United Way of Forsyth County offers quarterly seminars that encourage knowledge sharing and create a powerful network for good. Dates to be determined. Check back to see the flyer.
April - Celebrate. Don't miss our annual celebration event, to recognize our donors making an impact in the community. It will be an evening to enjoy with friends and co-workers. More information and invitations coming late February.
May - NALC Food Drive. The National Association of Letter Carriers hosts the annual food drive in zip codes 30040, 30041 and 30028. Watch for a flyer prior to the May 11th pick up date. Simply leave non-perishable food items in a bag at your mailbox for your mail carrier to pick up for local distribution. Last year, more than 19 thousand pounds of food were collected then distributed.
June - Summer Feeding. For our students who receive free and reduced lunches during the school year, the summer break leaves families unsure of how they will meet their children's nutritional needs. Local businesses and organizations step up to host a non-perishable food drive benefiting many of our food insecure students. click here to see a list of needed non-perishable food items and help provide summer meals.
July - Stuff the Bus. Join local businesses and organizations to host a school supply drive for local children in need and help them start the school year ready to succeed! Last year, 2000 back packs were provided prior to school starting. Donations can be dropped off at the United Way of Forsyth County office 240 Elm Street, Cumming, GA 30040. Contributions can also be made at your local Publix Store through their "Tools for Back to School" campaign. click here for the Stuff the Bus flyer.
August - Annual Campaign. Local businesses, Individuals and Corporations unite to donate, volunteer and advocate for causes that matter. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, last year we invested $1.3 million dollars into Forsyth County programs, through 75 programs, helping more than 52k residents.
September - Day of Caring. United Way of Forsyth County's Day of Caring is the community's single largest volunteer day, brining members of our community together to serve and give back. Our 2018 event had almost 1000 volunteers package 165k meals, immediately distributed to 8 local food pantries and programs. Small businesses and Corporations step up to sponsor meals, becoming part of the solution to the problem of food insecurity in Forsyth County.
