We did it! We Stuffed the Bus! August-26-2010

A very special thank you to Forsyth County residents, community organizations and local businesses who helped us "Stuff the Bus" with school supplies for children in need for the 2010-2011 school year! Because of your generousity, over 7,000 items were collected to help prepare our students for another school year.

With the downturn in the economy, it is much more difficult for families to provide their children with the most basic school supplies needed to be successful.  Your donations have enabled these children to be prepared and ready to learn this year. Approximately 700 children will benefit from these supplies through The Place of Forsyth County and the Forsyth County School System.

A BIG Thanks to the following:

Forsyth County Schools for their buses, drivers and transportation support

Walmart for allowing us to park our buses at their stores

Walmart at 1500 Marketplace Blvd, Cumming

Walmart at 5455 Atlanta Highway, Alpharetta

Advanced Disposal for providing collection boxes to local businesses

- Gulf Coast Recovery

United Way Gulf Recovery Fund

On Monday night, CNN will have a telethon on Larry King Live from 8-10 p.m ET in support of recovery in the Gulf Coast. The program will repeat 12-2 a.m. ET.

Donors will have the opportunity to give to three areas of need: 1. people (through United Way), 2. animals (through National Wildlife Federation) and 3. environment (through The Nature Conservancy).  Please spread the word through Facebook and RSVP to our Facebook event here.

The oil spill devastating the U.S. coastline has created major disruption in the lives of people in the Gulf Coast areas, even as they still struggle to recover from the 2005 hurricanes.

The United Way Gulf Recovery Fund will provide emergency assistance, such as help with food, rent and utilities, and support long-term recovery efforts to rebuild lives devastated by the disaster by addressing educational, financial and health-related challenges. In addition, funds will enable all who need help, or want to volunteer help, to have an easy, single point of contact by dialing 2-1-1.

To donate to the United Way Gulf Recovery Fund online, click here.

If you would like to write a check, please make it out to United Way and mail it to:
